ICPEL President’s Welcome
2018-2019 President’s Message Welcome conference participants and friends. This year, the International Council of Professors of Educational Leadership’s (ICPEL) conference theme, “Educational Leadership: A Global Perspective”is designed to generate critical discourse, and high-quality Global research on educational policies, procedures, and evidenced-based best practices for our nation’s Universities, Colleges and Pre-K-12 Educational Systems. As we do in odd numbered years, we again partner with, Educational Leaders Without Borders (ELWB), and support their conference theme: “Violence Toward Knowledge: The Role of the Educational Leader Without Borders.” By holding our conferences back-to-back, educational leaders of both organizations are able to attend both conferences with limited travel. Conference attendance not only allows attendees to define “A Global Perspective;” it also encourages educational leadership faculty and Pre-K-12 leaders, along with post-secondary scholar-practitioners, to engage in critical discourse on the requisite changes to curriculum and instructional delivery, education policies, and leadership trainings. Each of these themes ensures that Global Perspectives, and Violence Toward Knowledge, irrespective of race, gender, immigrant status, or sexual orientation, are infused into the leadership preparation programs of tomorrow. Your attendance at this year’s conference is indicative of our shared interest in making Global Pre-K-20 education systems inclusive for student across the globe. Thus, ICPEL is dedicated to going beyond fostering intellectual conversations among its members, by providing sessions designed to provide participants with researched based best practices for developing and maintaining globalized environments. On behalf of the ICPEL Board, thank you for being part of this year’s conference. If you and your university/college/department are not already a member, please consider joining us via individual or institutional membership. Finally, a note of gratitude to the Graduate School, Soka University of America administration, faculty, staff, conference planners, graduate students and volunteers for your dedicated work. It took a coordinated effort to ensure the success of ICPEL’s 2019 conference, in Aliso Viejo, California. Without your commitment and generous support as the host institution, we would not have been able to provide all the great programmatic content and conference resources. Sincerely, Dr. Michael Schwanenberger, 2018-19 ICPEL President Associate Professor Northern Arizona University |
