Background
The name “Ted Creighton” has been almost synonymous with NCPEA/ICPEL and ICPEL Publications. Beginning his career in education as an elementary teacher, Ted served as principal and superintendent prior to coming to higher education. The higher education side of his career took him from the University of Idaho to the University of Wyoming, Sam Houston State University, and Virginia Tech. He served as executive director of NCPEA bringing with him the Education Leadership Review. During his tenure as executive director and then Director of Publications, NCPEA joined the Connexions project for the publication of the International Journal of Educational Leadership Preparation as an open education resource and added Taylor and Francis’ Mentoring and Tutoring: Partnership in Learning to the NCPEA line-up of scholarly journals. Another of his initiatives, the Education Leadership Review of Doctoral Research journal was founded with the intent to provide those new to the profession an extra level of support and mentoring in their early publishing career. NCPEA Press was yet another idea that began with Ted. Ted saw a need to publish state-specific, school finance books recognizing that the information need was critical for school leaders but not profitable for traditional publishers. Throughout, Ted has engaged his students in this work, many of whom are now serving NCPEA and are engaged in their own scholarly work around the globe. While he may shun the spotlight, he would delight in seeing others recognized for innovative, impactful work that serves our profession and ultimately the children and youth in our schools.
