ICPEL International Seminar in 2018
Zunyi, China
As part of its expanding international mission ICPEL will sponsor an educational seminar to China during 2018. This is an educational seminar to learn about China’s educational system at the K-12 level. ICPEL is the sponsor and convener of this trip. Wang Hongshan--Director/Owner of the Carey School in Zunyi--James Berry, and Marc Shelton will facilitate the trip. Please note that a current passport is necessary. A visa must be applied for (and received) for each person intending to make the seminar. A Chinese visa must be applied for during the fall semester through the Chinese embassy in the U.S. ICPEL will be self funding this trip and make all of the arrangements through Sambac (the corporation owned by Wendy in Zunyi).
All of the travel documents must be acquired by March, 2018. The tentative agenda and dates for the trip:

  • Friday, June 22, 2018----Leave Detroit (and/or Seattle)
  • Saturday, June 23--Arrive Beijing and go to the hotel
  • Sunday, June 24—Tour of Forbidden City, visit Hutongs
  • Monday, June 25--Great Wall, Pearl St. Market
  • Tuesday, June 26—Fly to Zunyi, arrive and to the Fox hotel; dinner depending upon time.
  • Wednesday June 27—Full Day of Seminar/Workshops on Chinese educational system, partnerships between U.S. and China in education, meet Chinese school directors
  • Thursday, June 28—School and/or university visits for this day.
  • Friday, June 29—Tour of Red Army Museum or Moutai Factory
  • Saturday, June 30—Zunyi to Beijing and return flight to Detroit (or Seattle)
  • Sunday, July 1—Arrive in Detroit
A focus will be on student matriculation to K-12 and higher education institutions. Wendy has an ongoing partnership with a K-12 school district in the U.S. and looking to expand opportunities for students from the Zunyi, Guizhou province area to attend K-12 schools and universities in the U.S. Marc Shelton and James Berry have traveled to China multiple times and will explore the landscape of recruiting Chinese students to schools and universities in the U.S.
